Anti-wrinkle FAQ's

1) What is botulinum toxin?

This anti-wrinkle treatment is a purified bacterial substance that blocks muscle nerve signals. The dentist can safely inject it to weaken the facial muscle and diminish unwanted wrinkles and frown lines that appear across the forehead and at the corners of the eyes (crow’s feet).

2) Will wrinkle releasing treatments prevent facial movement?

This is an extremely common question, and the short answer is no. The whole idea is to give a natural look, just with fewer lines. The aim is to look relaxed and rested.

The whole point of facial aesthetics is to create a very natural appearance so no one will realise that anti-wrinkle injections have been used.

3 )What does botulinum toxin do?

This treatment is injected into specific areas of the face to help relax the muscles responsible for forming wrinkles. Using the minimum dose ensures that emotions will remain on the face. The intention is to subtly change the appearance and to help prevent lines from forming while still giving a completely natural appearance.

The results should last for quite a long time, and can be topped up at a later date.

4) What can dermal fillers do?

Dermal fillers are really quite different as they are used to treat wrinkles that are more well-established, so they’re more suitable for treating deep-seated wrinkles. They can also be injected into the lips to give a fuller appearance.

When you book your consultation with Dr Rik Trivedi, you may be unsure about which treatment is best, but he’ll be able to guide you in making an informed choice. Some people may only benefit from having one type of treatment while others may find it beneficial to use a combination.

5) Are anti wrinkle injections safe?

Yes.  Dr Rik Trivedi is very experienced at administering this treatment, and only ever uses the minimum dose necessary to get natural looking results. You will have had a full consultation before treatment to talk through the process and during this time Dr Trivedi can establish if you are a suitable patient. Pregnant or breastfeeding ladies may not be viable for this treatment.

Some people are worried treatment will be painful, but any discomfort is very brief, and the whole process is over within half an hour or less. Any tenderness or redness around the injection sites should soon pass.

It can take a few days to notice any difference, and you may notice improvements several weeks after treatment.

Botulinum toxin treatments are good for reducing the appearance of fine lines that have only recently appeared, but for more deep-seated lines, then dermal fillers might be a better option to help plump out the skin. Dermal fillers can be more effective for lines that have been present for some time.

6) What can wrinkle removal treatments do for you?

Botulinum toxin is a muscle relaxant that to works by temporarily deactivating the nerves that stimulate the muscles in the face. It’s extremely safe as it has been used in cosmetic procedures since the early 1990s and the effects will wear off after a few months. It’s an excellent treatment for minor facial wrinkles that have been caused by muscle movement. It might not be able to eliminate the appearance of wrinkles, but it can create a much fresher look. This nonsurgical procedure is ideal for anyone who wants to improve their facial appearance but who doesn’t wish to do anything as drastic as to go under the knife.

It’s one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the world and with good reason. As well as smoothing out facial wrinkles it can also create other structural changes. This is because the effect of relaxing the muscles can help to open up the eyes and may even elevate the brows slightly.

7) How are anti-wrinkle injections administered?

This is administered through a series of very small injections in precise locations. The needle used is extremely fine to ensure the placement is accurate, and to minimise any discomfort. Most people find there are very few side effects. It can take up to a week for the full effects to become visible, and the results should last for several months before gradually fading.

8) Will anti-wrinkle treatments make me look younger?

We all age and for some, the effects can be more obvious than others. If you dislike the way you look when you view yourself in the mirror, there is something you can do about it. It’s now possible to relieve the visible signs of ageing by using a range of facial aesthetic procedures.
