Wearing a brace can be a great way to correct teeth that are rotated out of position, or that stick out too much, or even which protrude inwards, but it isn’t always necessary. Opting for orthodontics in Kent may be overkill if these imperfections only affect a few teeth, and there may be a more immediate solution.

If one or two teeth are only slightly rotated then it might be possible to change their shape slightly, and to bring them back into a more cosmetically pleasing alignment. One way to do this is to have these teeth bonded. Dental bonding is a quick process that can be carried out by Dr Rik Trivedi or another dentist at Parrock Dental and Implant Centre. Dr Trivedi will use composite resin, which is the same type of material used for white fillings, to change the shape of your tooth. It may be necessary to remove a minute amount of tooth enamel to create a better shape, but the whole treatment is very conservative. Dental bonding is also very good at hiding small chips or cracks in teeth, and it can be used to mask the colour of a discoloured tooth. The results should last several years before the bonded area needs re-doing.

Dental Veneers

Another solution is to have these teeth veneered. The treatment will take a bit longer to complete, as you will need to visit our surgery several times to have your teeth prepared, and to have them fitted. One of the advantages of having porcelain veneers is that the material will not stain or discolour, and it is very durable. Veneers can last up to a decade before they need to be replaced. It is true that you will probably need to have a very small amount of tooth enamel removed before veneering, as most veneers are 0.5mm thick. Some veneers do not require any prior tooth preparation, but this does depend on the position of the tooth as you do not want the end result to look too bulky.

Although these are a couple of alternatives to wearing a dental brace, it could be that you would be better off to opt for orthodontics as it may be the healthier solution. These are all things that Dr Trivedi can discuss with you during your consultation. Ready to find out more?
