Recent research has discovered that women who are scared of visiting their dentist in Kent are up to six times more likely to have strong emotions over pictures of dental treatments compared to women who do not have any dental phobias. Even so, men and women were likely to be equally afraid over visiting the dentist, and in fact data from the Adult Dental Health Survey showed that nearly half of adults are likely to feel moderately scared to extremely afraid over dental visits. In spite of these high numbers it can be easy to think that dental phobia is a relatively rare condition, and if you are afraid of visiting your dentist in Kent you may feel quite alone.

This is something that Parrock Dental and Implant Centre recognises all too well and is one of the reasons why Dr Rik Trivedi offers patients sedation dentistry. In addition there are lots of things that can be done to make you feel more comfortable when visiting the dentist, and if you haven’t been for a while you might be surprised at just how sympathetic and gentle dental care can actually be. The main thing to do is to make us aware of your anxieties so we can help you. We’ll make sure your dental care is tailored to your needs, and if you are particularly fearful then we also offer sedation dentistry.

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is where drugs are administered intravenously either in your arm or in the back of your hand. The sedative will make you feel drowsy, but you’ll still be able to cooperate with our dental team. This treatment is excellent for anyone who is especially anxious for us to complete much more work during just one visit. If you currently have missing teeth and have always wanted to have dental implants in Kent then this could be the way forward for you.

If you’re only moderately anxious but would like a little extra help them we also offer laughing gas which is a mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide. This will help make you feel pleasantly relaxed, and it has the added benefit that it will leave your system within just a quarter of an hour of treatment been completed so you can even drive yourself home.

If you’d like to learn more about sedation dentistry then why not take a look at our website on www.parrockdental.co.uk as you can sign up for Dr Trivedi’s e-mail course on overcoming dental fears. Alternatively you can give us a call on 01474 537191 to discuss your concerns with any of our dental team.
